Looking for a FUN day of aviation in the Midwest? Look no further! “Sparta Aero’s Flight Fest,” located at KSAR has been known to be quite the gem. Airport Manager, Scott Marquardt, introduced Sparta Aero’s Flight Fest in 2014, with the intention of bringing Southern Illinois closer together, while heightening the community's involvement in the aviation industry. It has since blossomed into a very successful event and continues to evolve, tailored to all ages, attracting families and friends around the region. Sparta Aero organizes an array of events for the celebration, such as complimentary Young Eagle Flights, helicopter rides, aircraft and show car displays, as well as a raffle that benefits The Randolph County Humane Society. The festival featured its first live band in 2018. “The Gusto,” a regional cover band, was a huge hit. The best part is that there is no cost for admission or parking and the event is open to the public. Food trucks and local vendors are always in attendance to entertain. Be sure to bring the kids out every year to enjoy this awesome Midwest experience. If you wish to participate in the fest as a vendor, feel free to contact the office at 618.443.5321.
March 2020 Update:
2019 Marked the final year we will be hosting the Flight Fest. All five events were very successful, saw zero mishaps or accidents, and were a lot of fun. However, we have decided to discontinue the Flight Fests and concentrate on other avenues for community involvement and promotion. Thank you to all of you that joined us in year's past- we have enjoyed hosting everyone and providing a 'fun day at the airport' for all of you!
Sparta Aero is a full service FBO that caters not only to local pilots, but has welcomed aviators from all over the world. Sparta Community Airport was awarded ‘Airport of the Year in General Aviation’ in 2017. Feel free to stop by anytime during business hours to see for yourself.
